Well you get an award or something.

After all the kerfuffle I notice that Phil is hardly mentioned. And to me it's been the key since the beginning. The Dead were basically a psychedelic chamber group and both Jerry and Phil were leads. As much as Oteil seems to be a really good bassist and a swell dude, he hasn't a clue about being anything but a great supporter. Plus Phil brought in the atonal stuff and nobody has a clue about that really. That noted Mayer's blues background has been perfect for bringing back songs that I never thought I would hear again live. So there's that. Plus they've done a bit over 100 shows. That would have covered the Dead in the first half of '66? :)

Yeah. No Phil, no Dead. At least for me.

He says this while listening to Phil's mastery in the Eyes from 6/9/76. Good Lord.
